The Commodores starting pitcher Brandon Magallones (Northwestern) could not get into a groove over the plate as he walked the first two batters he faced and allowed two hits, one of which was a three run homer in the top of the first.  The right-handed pitcher surrendered six runs and had a strikeout in two-thirds innings of work on the mound, taking his second loss of the summer.  Kevin Mooney (Maryland) came in early for relief, yet managed to get himself into a similar jam as he walked two and allowed a hit.

The game looked promising for Falmouth in the bottom of fifth as Kevin Cron (TCU) and Troy Stein (Texas A&M) smacked back-to-back singles to break Lukas Schiraldi’s (Navarro College) no hitter.  Conner Hale (State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota) followed with a shot to deep left, but the Anglers left fielder Mitchell Gunsolus (Gonzaga) robbed Hale of a hit snagging the drive at the fence.  The Commodores could not rally as Sam Gillikin (Auburn) struck out swinging for the final out to retire the side.

The Anglers tacked on two additional runs between the sixth and seventh innings to secure an eight run lead, and unfortunately, the Commodores had no answer.

It was a tough night offensively as well as defensively for Falmouth.  The Commodores only had three hits and went through seven pitchers on the night, giving up eight runs off nine hits.

Falmouth sits comfortably in third place in the Western Division behind Cotuit and Hyannis.  Interestingly enough, the Anglers are the only Eastern Division team to have already secured a playoff birth.  It appears the Eastern Division playoff spots will come down to this final week of the regular season summer baseball.

The Commodores head to Wareham Tuesday for a double header against the Gatemen (8-28).  The first game is set for 4:00pm (EST).
