Falmouth Win Fourth Straight

The Falmouth Commodores defeated the Hyannis Harbor Hawks 8-2 last night, advancing their record to 5-1.

The Commodores started off strong with a three run first inning. Bryce Johnson (Sam Houston State University) claimed the first RBI of the night with a hard-hit double up the third base line to score Kevin Merrell (University of South Florida). Merrell was on base as the result of an error by Harbor Hawk’s pitcher, Andrew Gonzales. Tyler Lawrence (Murray State) kept the rally going with single into shallow center to drive in Johnson. Trevor Larnach (OSU) solidified Falmouth’s lead with an RBI single over the head of Hyannis shortstop, Ford Proctor (Rice University).

The Harbor Hawks got on the board in the fifth inning, as a result of an error by shortstop, Matt McLaughlin (U of Kansas), to bring home Treg Haberkorn (U of Cincinnati).

High Fives All Around for Falmouth

Falmouth had another three-run inning in the fifth. Merrell got things going, beating out a bunt and advancing McLaughlin, who was walked by Gonzales. The Harbor Hawks called in reliever John Gavin (Cal State Fullerton), but Falmouth was already threatening. Johnson got the first RBI of the inning with a single to shallow left. Michael Gigliotti (Lipscomb U) kept the trend going with a double, driving Merrell in from second. Lastly, Johnson made it home safely on a fielder’s choice.

In the seventh, Tyler Lawrence (Murray State) opened the floodgates with a two-run homer off the scoreboard, in right field.

The Harbor Hawks got on the board, again, in the eighth. Carl Stajduhar (U of NM) hit a shot up the middle off the glove of shortstop Matt McLaughlin. After advancing to second base on a passed ball, Stajduhar scored on a single to right field by Jordan Rodgers (U of Tenn).  That was as close as the Harbor Hawks would get as Falmouth closer Tyler Jones (Wichita State) finished out the game, maintaining his 0.00 ERA.

The Commodores are on the road again tomorrow night at Wareham. First Pitch is at 6:30PM!
