The Falmouth Commodores (4-3) fall to the Chatham Anglers (4-4), in a 5-2 preference.
The Commodores wasted no time, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Michael Gigliotti (Lipscomb U) is credited for driving in both runs, bringing home the two lead-off batters, Kevin Merrell (U of South Florida) and Bryce Johnson (Sam Houston State University).
The Anglers tied the game up in the fourth inning. Kyle Adams (U of Richmond) got a single, as first basemen Matt Duce was unable to cleanly field the ball. Adams drove in Sean Bouchard, who reached base on a single up the middle. Pinder follows Adam’s suit with a hard-hit ball bounced over the head of shortstop, Cadyn Grenier, to bring home John Aiello (Wake Forest U), who reached base on a walk.
Chatham took a 3-2 lead in the fifth when Donovan Casey (Boston College) reached first on a fielder’s choice, driving in Jake Palomaki (Boston College). Palomaki reached base on an infield single that tipped off of the glove of Commodores 6’3” pitcher, Tyler Jones (Wichita State).
Chatham solidified their lead in the ninth inning, advancing their lead 5-2. Chase Pinder (Clemson U) completed the round of the bases after starting the inning off with a double placed perfectly between center fielder Michael Gigliotti and right fielder Trevor Larnach (Oregon State). Patrick Mathis brought in Palomaki, who had reached first with an RBI single and advanced to second on a wild pitch, adding one more insurance run.
Chatham closer Moises Ceja shut down Falmouth in the bottom half of the ninth with two strikeouts and a pop fly to Adams at first base.
The Commodores are back on the road tomorrow night in Harwich, with a 5:30PM start!
