ORLEANS – After rallying to break a scoreless tie in the top of the ninth, the Falmouth Commodores (16-11) fell to the Orleans Firebirds (14-12-1) on Adam Haseley’s walk-off two-run home run.
Stephen Villines (Kansas) entered the ninth with a one-run lead after Michael Gigliotti’s clutch pinch-hit RBI single. But after a leadoff walk and groundout, Adam Haseley (Virginia) smashed an 0-1 pitch deep into the Cape Cod night for a no-doubt, two-run bomb that won the game.
For Villines, those runs were only the third and fourth given up all season.
Jeff Passantino threw seven scoreless innings with five strikeouts for another impressive start from the Lipscomb product. He finished with his third no decision of the season.
It was a true pitchers duel in Orleans as the Firebirds starter matched Passantino nearly pitch-for-pitch with 6.2 scoreless innings agains the Falmouth offense. Through the game, he gave up only three hits, one of those was JJ Matijevic’s leadoff double.
Falmouth returns to Guv Fuller Field tomorrow night as Fox College Sports comes to town for their broadcast of the game. The ‘Dores take on the Wareham Gatemen for the second time in three nights.
