Six Commodores named to 2018 Cape League All-Star Game

Six Falmouth Commodores were selected to represent the West Division in the 2018 Cape Cod League All-Star Game. The team will be managed by by Commodores 20th-year head coach Jeff Trundy.

Here’s a look at the honorees.

Kyle Stowers – A rising junior at Stanford, Stowers has collected multi-hit games in nine of his past 12 appearances, raising his average from .192 to .342, the league’s third best mark. He has six doubles, three home runs and 11 RBIs in 20 games for the Commodores. Stowers has hits in 21 of his last 53 at-bats, sporting a .396 average since June 29. He earned the team’s first Cape League Player of the Week recognition, announced this past Tuesday.

Steven Williams – Leading the Cape League in on-base percentage at .506, the Auburn rising sophomore is batting .328 with one home run and five RBIs in 18 games. He’s walked 20 times, which has helped him to reach base in 11 straight contests, and 17 of his 18 appearances. Williams has appeared mainly as the Commodores designated hitter, but also sees action in right field. 

Cameron Cannon – The team leader in RBIs (16), the Arizona rising junior plays a stellar third base. Cannon had a home run and six RBIs as the Commodores tied the Cape League season-high for most runs in a game with 17.

Ian Koch – He started his summer with 15.0 shutout innings, and the Western Illinois rising senior emerged as one of the top bullpen arms in the Cape League. Koch has a minuscule 0.81 ERA in his 22 innings pitched, and leads the team with nine appearances. Koch is in his second summer with the Commodores, earning his way to a full season’s stay for another summer.


TJ Sikkema – The first-year Commodores pitcher has dazzled all year, collecting a 1.46 ERA across four starts and a team-leading 24.2 innings. He’s improved with every start, as the Missouri rising junior most recently turning in a pair a 7.0 inning, one run appearances. The left-hander owns a WHIP of just 0.97.

Matt Canterino – Invited to try out for the USA Collegiate National Team, the Rice rising junior has allowed just one earned run in his 13.2 innings on the Cape for a 0.65 ERA. Canterino has 14 strikeouts this summer to just six walks in three starts.

The 2018 Cape Cod League All-Star Game is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start on Sunday July 22 at Whitehouse Field in Harwich.
