Commodores’ pitching dazzles against Red Sox

FALMOUTH, Mass. – The Falmouth Commodores’ pitching staff dazzled on Friday night. Three hurlers combined to blank the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox in the club’s 2-0 victory at Guv Fuller Field.

Mikey Tepper set the tone for the ‘Dores, dominating by allowing just one hit in five shutout frames. Pitching coach Mike Landry said that he was impressed with the Mississippi State product’s performance in the contest.

“He did a great job,” Landry said. “He’s mixing his pitches well, working the change up in a little bit more, and that paid off for him tonight.”

Chuck Harrison also kept the Sox off balance, holding the opposition to just one hit in two scoreless innings of work. KC Hunt was equally as impressive, striking out four batters and notching his first save of the summer.

At the plate, the ‘Dores got the job done by scoring a pair of runs and logging seven hits. Taylor Smith launched the only homer of the night in a 1-for-4 performance. Doug Hodo also drove in a run, going 1-for-3 with a walk.

Tepper said that he was pleased with the club’s collective effort in the contest.

“It was definitely a good team win,” Tepper said. “Just good pitching by everyone, and [the] hitting came together tonight and it’s a good start for hopefully, a good run.”

The Commodores jumped out to an early in the bottom of the second inning, courtesy of Smith’s solo jack over the left-center wall. The blast marked the Aggie’s fourth dinger of the summer and gave Falmouth a 1-0 advantage over Yarmouth-Dennis.

Hodo added to the club’s lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, lining an RBI single that glanced off the third baseman’s glove before rolling into shallow left field. The knock drove in Kodie Kolden and extended the Commodores’ lead to 2-0.

This would hold as the final score, as Harrison and Hunt would secure Falmouth’s victory by delivering four shutout innings.

The win improves the team’s record to 10-13-2 on the season. The Commodores will return to action against the Cotuit Kettleers on July 24 at 5 p.m., from Lowell Park.
