Falmouth to Face Hyannis in Round One of CCBL Playoffs

The Falmouth Commodores are set to play the Hyannis Harbor Hawks in the first round of the Cape Cod Baseball League Playoffs.

Falmouth, which finished the 2023 regular season with a 24-18-2 record, will travel to McKeon Park for game 1 at 6 P.M. on Friday. The Commodores then host game 2 on Saturday at the same time, and if necessary, will be back on the road for a decisive game 3 Sunday.

“It’ll be a good series,” Commodores Manager Jeff Trundy said following his team’s 6-5 walk-off win over the Harbor Hawks on Monday. “We’ve been in the playoffs before. Obviously, playoff baseball is good baseball. It’s going to be a matter of who can put the best game together and do the things they need to do.”

Prior to its last pair of contests against Hyannis (52 points, No. 2 West), Falmouth (50 points No. 3 West) dropped four consecutive matches against its west division foe to start the season. The Harbor Hawks outscored the Commodores by a mark of 22-10 through that stretch.

It wouldn’t be until back-to-back weeks of Monday games at Guv Fuller Field — an 8-7 win on July 24th and a 6-5 triumph on July 31st — that Trundy’s team captured its first pair of victories against its now playoff opponent.

Hyannis, which made the west division final last year, is in search of reaching the second-round back-to-back times for the first time in the Pointstreak era. Falmouth, meanwhile, looks to advance past the first round for the first time since 2019 after falling to eventual champion Bourne in the west division semifinals last year.

Sporting a combined 31 wins since the midpoint of the 2023 CCBL season, the two squads currently stand as the hottest teams in the league, respectively.
