Following their tough loss in the home opener, the Falmouth Commodores (1-1) welcome the undefeated Warehem Gatemen (2-0) to Guv Fuller Field.
Much like the Commodores, Warehem’s Saturday evening game was rained out and on a day’s rest they topped the Cotuit Keetlers 8-0 on Sunday. Catcher Colton Shaver (BYU) continued his torrid start to Cape League play by going 4-4 with four RBI’s on a double and two home runs. Starter Jake Walters (Alabama, Tuscaloosa) threw three innings of shutout ball to pick up the win and reliever Cole Stapler (Nicholls State University) followed with five shutout innings of his own. Nick Sprengler (U of San Diego) hurled a clean ninth to close the game.
Falmouth’s defense let it down in the home opener, spoiling a fine start from Tom Pontecelli (5.2 IP, 3R, 3K’s) and quality relief from Paul Balestrieri (3.1 IP, 0 H, O R, 3 K). Shortstop Matt McClaughlin booted a sharp groundball and left fielder Zachary Clark dropped a routine flyball to allow three unearned runs across. Offensively, the Commodores left nine men on base including five in scoring position.
Also, INF Bryce Johnson (Sam Houston State) has been added to the Commodores roster.
